It is no news that residents and long term tourists residing in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, face daily challenges of housing on a daily basis but truth of the matter is even some with accommodation still face some kind of problem as well ranging from poor living conditions, resulting from 4-6 people sharing a one bedroom unit apartment.
Hotels are taking advantage of this problem, providing a more convenient living environment for tourists and some residents to enjoy those basic amenities and utilities like: High speed Internet, light, parking and weekly housekeeping/cleaning at a better rate with flexible options of a monthly or annual payment as compared to what will be paid to live in a residential apartment where non of these utilities will be provided plus fixed payment methods. This out of the many benefits hotel apartments are providing is gradually luring clients out of the residential apartments.
Correspondences from two young ladies living in Sharjah on a long term tourist visa:
|"Myself and three friends share a one bedroom studio room in an apartment, we pay for everything including internet whereas if we live in a hotel apartment we will enjoy free high speed internet and live in luxury but we are not sure if the hotel can let the four of us share one room". She added there is no harm in trying I and my friends are going to checkout some hotel apartments before the end of the month.
|My roommate bring his boyfriend over every night and they make a lot of noise, am not able to sleep when I get to work the next morning I feel so tired at work. I think I should go find myself a one bedroom unit in a hotel.
However, residential consultants share a different view. Our reporter interviewed Mr Ahmed, a property manager in town who said: Here in Sharjah we rent clean and comfortable rooms to our renters and we make sure they have all basic amenities in good operational state before we collect money from them. Internet connection will be made available but normally we inform our renters that the bill for that is their responsibility but we make sure they are paying to live comfortably.
Both living arrangements residential and hotel living are almost at the same annual rate where a hotel might cost you 110,000 - 135,000 annually for a spacious one bedroom unit, a residential accommodation will cost 135,000 - 160,000 depending on the location and number of rooms you are renting. Which is fair but the deliberating fact still remains that hotels provide more comfort and luxury.
